STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS: LACSOP VISITS LAGOS WATER CORPORATION

The LACSOP team visited the Lagos State Water Corporation (LWC). The team was led by the Executive Director, Ms. Dede Kadiri, the project manager, the communications manager, the program coordinator, and a LACSOP board member.

The inception meeting with the management of the LWC is aimed at intimating the organisation with the goals of the project and sharing areas for collaboration. The Managing Director of the LWC, Engr Mukhtaar Tijani received the LACSOP team. Also, present was the LUWASH focal officer, the District Director and head of community engagement, and other staff of the corporation.

In her remarks, the LACSOP Executive Secretary clarified that LACSOP as an NGO works on the principles of partnership and collaboration, seeking ways of partnering for development as it has done with several MDAs in the state since it was established.

In response to the presentation from the LACSOP team, the Managing Director, began by giving credit to LUWASH for providing grants to grassroots organisations such as LACSOP who have a deep reach into communities. He noted the importance of data in any intervention as it provides evidence and demonstrates results. He stated his support for all the objectives shared and assured that the staff of the LWC will be available to offer every assistance needed. He expressed his excitement at the opportunity and looked forward to the partnership.

The LUWASH governance advisor, Dr. Jurbe, in his remarks, appreciated the management of LWC for the reforms that have happened in the organisation, pointing out that little improvements eventually lead to great achievements. He emphasized the importance of working together while implementing the activities under the grant, recommending that LACSOP liaise closely with the LWC team.   

LWC is a key partner on this grant and some of the activities that LACSOP will be implementing in collaboration include –

  • supporting the development of a LWC service charter
  • advocacy on improvements in services of LWC
  • empowering community members to take ownership of water infrastructure and facilities
  • capacity building for the LWC customer care department
  • survey on consumer satisfaction and community feedback on water services
  • assessment of the water sector policy effectiveness and budget analysis
