1 Year In Office – Lagosians Rate Sanwo-Olu’s Performance As Fair

As the current administration in Lagos State marks one year in office today, residents of the state have rated the performance of the Babjide-Sanwo-olu led administration as ‘fair’.

In a survey conducted by the Lagos State Civil Society Partnership, LACSOP for the purpose of assessing the performance of the administration since assumption of office in one year.

The survey was hinged on the six pillar development project of the administration, tagged, THEMES Agenda. The six pillar plan are – Transportation and Traffic management; Health and Environment; Education and Technology; Making Lagos a 21st-Century Economy; Entertainment and Tourism; and Security and Governance.

Regarding Transportation and Traffic Management, 59.5 % of the respondents rated the performance of the administration as Fair, 21.6% as Poor and 18.9% as Excellent.

One of the respondents commented that, the Governor “has really tried in regards to Roads especially in Ijaye Ojokoro Area unfortunately the Kereku Adetola road that lead to Ijaye housing Estate and Olaniyi that can serve as alternative to the Express has not been done yet. I wish the Governor will use his good office to ease the tensions of commuters in that axis.”

Another respondent noted that, “the impact of the government has not been felt in the areas of transportation which cut across the provision of good roads especially the inner roads in the state.”

On Health and Environment, 56.85 of the respondents agreed that the performance of the incumbent administration is Fair, 27% believed it is Excellent and 16.2% rated it Poor.

Feedback from one of the respondents has it that, “the health sector obviously need a total overhaul in Lagos State especially the PHCs.” Most respondents commended the COVID-19 Response.

In Education and Technology, Lagosians believe that the current administration has not lived to its promises in any way. 75.7% rated the performance in the Education sector as Fair, 18.9% as Excellent and 5.4% as Poor.

51.4% of the respondents affirmed that the performance of this administration in Making Lagos a 21st century Economy is Fair, 27% believes it is Poor and 21.6% believes it is Excellent

 Entertainment and Tourism has 48.6% as Fair, 35.1% as Poor and 16.2% as Excellent.

On Security and governance, 51.4% rated Fair, 24.3% of the respondents believed it is Excellent and another fraction of 24.3% chose Poor.

Some of the feedbacks believe that the COVID-19 pandemic might have affected some of the activities of the government but also want the government to buckle up and ensure no stone is left unturned.

“This administration should set up a think-tank group with credible people to chart the way for greater Lagos.”

“The government have not hit the ground running, and the current global situation have not helped either, so it will be difficult to rate this administration for now, but it has been a good performance.”

“I suggest focus should be on healthcare facilities and completion of abandoned road projects.”

“The government needs deeper engagement with the people and persons with disability should be included in the administration.”

The overall feedback of the survey shows that Lagosians rated the performance of the administration as Fair, which means much is expected to ensure that the campaign promises are fulfilled.
